On behalf of the Conference Organizing Committee and the Canadian Society for Chemical Engineering (CSChE), we are pleased to welcome you to the website for the 62nd Canadian Chemical Engineering Conference, to be held in Vancouver, British Columbia from October 14-17, 2012.
The main themes of this year’s conference are Energy, Environment and Sustainability, which are critical issues faced by chemical engineers both in Canada and around the world. Five international symposia: gasification, biomass and bioenergy, fuel cells-battery-electrochemical technologies, sustainability and spouted beds, are to be organized by multinational committees of experts in each field. The 3rd International Symposium on Gasification and Applications (iSGA-3) will be organized by its international organizing committee following its two successful events in Shanghai (2008, iSGA-1) and Fukuoka (2010, iSGA-2). The International Symposium on Sustainability is a special event jointly sponsored by Institute of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) and CSChE. For the first time, the Canadian Society of Biological Engineering (CSBE) will collaborate with CSChE to jointly organize the special symposium on Biomass and Bioenergy.
Regular programs in all aspects of chemical engineering are also planned by the Subject Divisions of the CSChE. Separate graduate and undergraduate programs are organized by our student committees to showcase the student contributions and to promote exchange of ideas for our young and bright chemical engineers.
Vancouver is a dynamic, multicultural city with a cosmopolitan flair set in a spectacular natural environment. It has been recognized as the world’s most liveable city, with the mildest climates in Canada and an international port with air connections to major international cities. You can experience its unique culture through the art of west coast natives and many ethnic minority groups, and explore the natural beauty of spectacular tourist attraction sites such as Whistler, Stanley Park and Capilano Suspension Bridge, as well as a maple-leaf decorated Grouse Mountain and rivers full of migrating salmon in the fall. How fitting to host a conference with this year’s themes in the city whose mayor and council recently approved an ambitious strategy to be the greenest city in the world by 2020. Early results are visible throughout the city including: The UN award winning, LEED Platinum Olympic Village; the Neighbourhood Energy Utility which uses waste heat to provide energy to homes; an extensive network of bike lanes; the first fast charging electric vehicle station in North America; and Canada's first point-to-point car sharing service.
We look forward to seeing you at the Conference!
